Like any businessman worth his salt, Lee Callender has some very firm opinions about how he wants
to run his recruitment firm, the aptly named Call4Recruitment. "We're not your average agency - we really
are trying to do things a little differently," he says. But let's be clear here: this is not different for different‘s sake.
As a case in point, take Call4 Recruitment's approach to sending candidate CVs to clients. It's the industry
norm to standardise all CVs, tidying up layout and correcting grammatical errors. This sounds all well and
good but Lee, who spent a number of years in senior recruitment roles before establishing his business,
always believed there was a better way. "For me, standardising CVs makes it much harder for the client to
choose who they want," he says. "You can learn so much about a person by their grammar, layout and so on.
"This meticulous attention to detail extends to Call4 Recruitment's treatment of candidates, all of whom
go through a vigorous referencing process. Tellingly, each candidate undertakes a thorough interview in
an informal setting with a member of Call4 Recruitment's team. "We make the interview environment as
relaxed as possible," says Lee. "By encouraging people to relax, we find out the true person rather than the
person they want to portray to get the job. We don't want calculated answers - we want the truth." Such words
will come as a godsend to any business that has been bombarded with zillions of CVs by those recruitment
agencies that prefer to play the numbers game. "Ours is a more considered approach but it works - there are
countless occasions where we've only sent one or two CVs and the client has taken somebody on," Lee says.
Underpinning Lee's approach to recruitment is a refreshing honesty and openness. The company has an open
book policy on pricing and is not out to win business at all costs. "If we haven't got a candidate we will tell the
client," he says. "We aim to overdeliver and under promise." It's a laudable aim from one of the bright new
players in North East recruitment circles.

The statutory holiday entitlement is changing. The holiday entitlement will increase to 4.8 weeks (24 days if you work a five day week) from 1 October 2007 and to 5.6 weeks (28 days if you work a five day week) from 1 April 2009, pro-rata for those working part-time.
Clients be aware The National Minimum Wage has increased again from October 2007
Adult rate (workers aged 22 and over) will increase to £5.52.
Development rate for 18-21 year olds will increase to £4.60.
Development rate for 16-17 year olds will increase to £3.40
